Vaiśampāyana said: When the great-hearted Pāṇḍava-s lived in disguise, Vyāsa, Satyavatī's son, once came to see them.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब महान हृदय वाले पांडव छद्मवेश में रहते थे, तब एक बार सत्यवती के पुत्र व्यास उनसे मिलने आये।
On seeing him come, those scorchers of enemies advanced to meet him. They prostrated themselves to welcome him and stood before him with folded hands.
उन्हें आते देख शत्रुओं को झुलसाने वाले वे लोग उनसे मिलने के लिए आगे बढ़े। उन्होंने उसके स्वागत में साष्टांग प्रणाम किया और हाथ जोड़कर उसके सामने खड़े हो गये।
Returning their greetings, and worshipped and pleased by Pṛthā's sons, the sage spoke to them in affectionate words, after they were all seated,
उनके अभिवादन का उत्तर देते हुए, पृथा के पुत्रों द्वारा पूजित और प्रसन्न होकर, ऋषि ने उन सभी के बैठने के बाद स्नेहपूर्ण शब्दों में कहा,

अपि धर्मेण वर्तध्वं शास्त्रेण च परंतपाः अपि विप्रेषु वः पूजा पूजार्हेषु न हीयते
"O scorchers of enemies! Do you follow the path of dharma and that laid down in the sacred texts? Do you worship the Brāhmana-s and those who deserve worship?"
"हे शत्रुओं को जलाने वालों! क्या तुम धर्म के मार्ग और पवित्र ग्रंथों में बताए गए मार्ग का पालन करते हो? क्या तुम ब्राह्मणों और पूजा के योग्य लोगों की पूजा करते हो?"

अथ धर्मार्थवद्वाक्यमुक्त्वा स भगवानृषिः विचित्राश्च कथास्तास्ताः पुनरेवेदमब्रवीत्
The illustrious riṣi uttered many words about dharma and artha. Speaking about many subjects, he again said,
प्रसिद्ध ऋषि ने धर्म और अर्थ के बारे में कई शब्द कहे। कई विषयों पर बोलते हुए उन्होंने फिर कहा,
"A great-souled riṣi lived in a hermitage. He had a daughter who was slender of waist and wide of hips. Her eyebrows were beautiful and she had all the qualities.
"एक महान आत्मा वाले ऋषि एक आश्रम में रहते थे। उनकी एक बेटी थी जिसकी कमर पतली और कूल्हे चौड़े थे। उसकी भौहें सुंदर थीं और उसमें सभी गुण थे।
Because of her earlier deeds, she was unfortunate. Despite being beautiful and pure, that girl did not get a husband.
अपने पूर्व कर्मों के कारण वह अभागी थी। सुन्दर और पवित्र होने पर भी उस कन्या को पति नहीं मिला।
With sorrow in her heart, she then began to perform austerities so as to obtain a husband. She satisfied Śaṅkara with her severe austerities.
फिर वह मन में दुःख लेकर पति को प्राप्त करने के लिए तपस्या करने लगी। उन्होंने अपनी कठोर तपस्या से शंकर को संतुष्ट किया।

तस्याः स भगवांस्तुष्टस्तामुवाच तपस्विनीम् वरं वरय भद्रं ते वरदोऽस्मीति भामिनि
Gratified, the illustrious lord spoke to the ascetic lady. "O fortunate one! O beautiful one! Ask for a boon and I shall give it to you."
प्रसन्न होकर, महामहिम भगवान ने तपस्वी महिला से बात की। "हे भाग्यशाली! हे सुंदरी! वरदान मांगो और मैं तुम्हें वरदान दूंगा।"

अथेश्वरमुवाचेदमात्मनः सा वचो हितम् पतिं सर्वगुणोपेतमिच्छामीति पुनः पुनः
Desirous of ensuring her own welfare, she repeatedly told the supreme god, "I want a husband with all the qualities."
अपना कल्याण सुनिश्चित करने की इच्छा से, उसने बार-बार सर्वोच्च भगवान से कहा, "मुझे सभी गुणों वाला पति चाहिए।"
Then the eloquent Īśāna Śaṅkara told her, "O fortunate one! You will have five husbands."
तब वाक्पटु ईशान शंकर ने उससे कहा, "हे भाग्यशाली! तुम्हारे पांच पति होंगे।"
The god addressed her again in these excellent words, "You have repeatedly asked me for a husband five times. Therefore, when you are reborn in another body, it shall be as I have just said."
भगवान ने उसे इन उत्कृष्ट शब्दों में फिर से संबोधित किया, "तुमने मुझसे पांच बार बार-बार पति मांगा है। इसलिए, जब तुम दूसरे शरीर में पुनर्जन्म लोगी, तो यह वैसा ही होगा जैसा मैंने अभी कहा है।"

द्रुपदस्य कुले जाता कन्या सा देवरूपिणी निर्दिष्टा भवतां पत्नी कृष्णा पार्षत्यनिन्दिता
That daughter of divine form was born in Drupada's family, as the unblemished Kṛṣṇā Pārṣatī and is destined to be your wife.
वह दिव्य रूप वाली कन्या द्रुपद के परिवार में निष्कलंक कृष्ण पारशती के रूप में पैदा हुई थी और उसका आपकी पत्नी बनना निश्चित है।

पाञ्चालनगरं तस्मात्प्रविशध्वं महाबलाः सुखिनस्तामनुप्राप्य भविष्यथ न संशयः
O mighty ones! Go to the city of Pāñcāla. There is no doubt that you will be happy in obtaining her as your wife."
हे वीरो! पंचाल शहर में जाओ. इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि आप उसे अपनी पत्नी के रूप में पाकर प्रसन्न होंगे।”
Having told the Pāṇḍava-s this, the greatly fortunate grandfather, the great ascetic, bid his farewell to Kuntī and Pṛthā's sons and left.
पांडवों से यह कहकर परम भाग्यशाली पितामह, महान तपस्वी, कुंती और पृथा के पुत्रों को विदा करके चले गये।
